Don’t Be A Pam Beasly! Your Doodles Are More Than Just Doodles, They’re Art.

To the Pam Beasleys of the world who solely create as hobbyist:

Why are you so afraid to show the world what you’re made of? You sit in your cubicle, doing work for someone else, work that probably interests you very little. You keep a notebook at your desk. In it, you find all your musings and doodles from all the days you find yourself daydreaming on the job.

What’s that dream look like? Are you on a stage singing? Showing your art in your own gallery? Signing you’re first published book for an adoring fan? Whatever that dream may be, why have you given up on it?

I bear witness to so many individuals who let their talents wither away in darkness rather than letting their light shine. When we share our light with others, it then sparks a light within them and they can then share that light with another and so forth and so on. If we’re able to do this, soon, the world will shine it’s brightest. I’ve always wondered why people would hide such raw and pure art from everyone else. Could people really be that selfish? I only joke! But really, why shouldn’t you share your light!? It then occurred to me that maybe these artists, young and old, were never given an outlet. Were never given the stage or the spotlight.

As a child, I was put on stage to dance in front of audiences, I was publishing stories in my elementary school publishing center (run by my aunt); I had an outlet. That was a privilege. My art has been my way of getting through the bad days and celebrating the good ones. I was able to use a piece created out of my pain and touch someone else. I literally moved someone to tears. I inspired someone to write. I shared my story and provided an example. I helped someone find their courage.

Unlike Pam who had no choice but to resort to local art showings where she was subject to rejection from her colleagues, we have the inclusive internet. There are platforms for creatives to display their work to the public.

I want us all to be able to showcase our talents and maybe change someone else’s life for the better.

I created my company Anapestic Remarks in hopes of giving young artists, of all forms, a stage and a spotlight. We are a website, a publishing company, as well as a mentorship program. On our website, you’ll find work from different writers, including myself. Soon we will be featuring photographers, painters, and other illustrators alongside our written pieces. On the blog portion of the site is where we invite everyone to submit their videos, links, and other modes of media to present talents that our publishing company may not naturally address such as dance, music, spoken word, acting, etc. I encourage everyone to find an outlet, like Anapestic Remarks, and let your light shine!

At times, we are really hard on ourselves; we can be our worst critics. As you sit in your cubicle, leafing through your doodles, you may be thinking you’re not good enough. You may be thinking that no one could like your work. But how would you know if you never gave anyone the chance to? Whatever you define as art, whatever talent you have, don’t hide it! You may just be the spark someone else needs for their talents to flourish. You never know who you can inspire.

No more daydreaming about the life you could have IF you utilized your talents and let the world know your name. It’s time to start living. Be true to yourself and be true to your art.

If you feel inspired to, visit anapestic-remarks.com. We would love for you to be a part of our ever-growing family.
